A VISIT FROM THE PRINCE OF WALES
April 8, 2022 | ELEMENT: spirit | editorial | 2 minute read

We’ve poured our whisky for quite a crowd now, but royalty is a new one.

On their recent visit to Waterford HRH The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall stopped by at Waterford Crystal, where they enjoyed a glass of our Biodynamic Luna with Head Distiller Ned.

“Prince Charles was very interested in the process of biodynamic farming but also the way in which we keep our farms separate,” says Ned. “He seemed to have a very good knowledge of what we are doing at the distillery. He also talked about heritage grains and we explained what we are doing and why in our quest to unlock whisky’s most natural flavour. We shared a laugh after I told him that the whisky was 50% alcohol and he said that he could feel it … but how enjoyable it was.”

It must have gone down well, as HRH came back for a second glass.

They later visited John Crowley at Tinnashrule to see the farm first hand and to learn more about how we’re individually harvesting, distilling and maturing terroirs. Naturally John had an appropriate bottle of Tinnashrule Single Farm Origin to hand, so the Prince could enjoy his third glass of Waterford of the day.
