That’s where our TÉIREOIR codes come in.

When you enter the TÉIREOIR code for any bottle of Waterford Whisky you gain absolute, uninhibited access to every detail of its individual, astonishing journey from barley to bottle.

Consider it your all-access pass. To the farm and the grower, the distillery – our Facilitator – itself, and to every cask that has contributed to the whisky in your glass.

Every meaningful detail openly offered. And also, because we can, a sound clip taken from your whisky’s barley field itself.

Why go to such great lengths?

Simply put, we are curious about flavour and where it comes from. And, since you are looking at our website (quite possibly with bottle in hand) we suspect that you may be, too.

We are intrigued by the flavour contributions made at every stage of a natural whisky’s journey. From the place the barley grows and the particular characteristics of its growing  vintage, to the unique technological trinity that yields our ultra-clear wort, to the length of fermentations, the speed of distillations, the particular profile and pedigree of oak in which it matured and much, much more besides.

We are intrigued in the differences to be found on varying soil types or gleaned through the old ways of agriculture; organics, biodynamics, heritage grains. We are intrigued by how the layering of spirit from different farms after maturation creates a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

We are intrigued by everything, and we want to share with you as much as we can. To connect the flavours in your glass with the places, ingredients and processes through which those flavours have manifested.

Terroir, Traceability, Transparency

When restaurants and wineries celebrate the provenance of their ingredients, revel in the nuances of their process and clearly show the origins of their flavours, we feel that drinkers of single malt whisky – the most complex spirit of all – deserve the same level of detail and transparency.

Why shouldn’t you know where the barley came from and how it might differ from barley grown anywhere else? Why shouldn’t you be fascinated by the singular ways in which that barley becomes whisky? In short, why should you not be curious, and why should the answers to your questions not be made available?

It’s not for everyone, of course – only the curious.
