The land is bleakest in the depths of midwinter. When the night is long & enduring – with banshee winds wailing, storms shaking the window – it is a time to batten down the hatches. A lost word evoking the warmth & intimacy of an enveloping woolspun blanket, in front of a cottage fireside, Lómhar – sounds like ‘lover’ – is perhaps what hygge is to the Danes. We have conjured the mood of Lómhar in this soulful spirt: our assemblage composed for hibernation; a winter hymn of hope & renewal; a dark & spicy cuvée to warm the bones in the icy twilight.

Head Distiller's Observations

Appearance: Like a low winter’s sun on a crisp snowy morning with legs that are unctuous and gently move down the glass.

Nose: Rolled barley, brown banana, milk chocolate, smokey, clove spice, leather, demerara sugar, fruit crumble, mushrooms, plums, sweet apricot.

Taste: Aniseed, mixed herbs, dry smoke, rhubarb tart, black peppercorns, grapefruit, vanilla, light spice rub, tamarind, lemon sherbet, earthy.

Finish: Dry smokiness with a licorice spice.

A Micro Cuvée Explainer

The spirit of a Micro Cuvée is intended to be fun and frivolous. We managed to smuggle a bottle of Pique-Nique – last summer’s very limited Micro Cuvée – to our founder and CEO Mark Reynier, whilst he was at home on Islay. Here he explains the mood of a Micro Cuvée: what these little bottlings are all about.
